Rock 104.9 Detroit is an independently owned and operated rock station serving Detroit, Traverse City, and listeners everywhere online. We play the best rock from the ’90s to now, blending alternative, active rock, hard rock, and modern rock with the kind of personality that has largely disappeared from corporate radio.
What makes Rock 104.9 different is that it is built like a real radio station, not just a playlist on shuffle. We feature live personalities, original programming, local news, weather, sports, concert coverage, station imaging, specialty features, and a strong connection to the communities we serve. Our programming is designed to sound local, immediate, and human.
Rock 104.9 was created for listeners who still want radio to have attitude. We believe great stations should surprise people, make them laugh, introduce them to new music, and feel like they belong to the people listening. That means fewer corporate formulas, fewer empty slogans, and more personality, creativity, and genuine interaction.
Our music spans major rock artists from the past three decades while continuing to support newer bands, emerging artists, and local music. From alternative and post-grunge to active rock and heavier modern tracks, Rock 104.9 is programmed for listeners who want variety without losing the station’s identity.
The station is also deeply hands-on. Programming, engineering, production, imaging, streaming, digital distribution, and much of the station’s technical infrastructure are managed internally. That independence allows Rock 104.9 to move quickly, experiment, and build a sound that does not have to pass through layers of corporate approval.
We serve listeners through our website, mobile streaming, connected radio platforms, smart devices, and third-party radio directories, while continuing to expand our digital reach.
Rock 104.9 Detroit is radio for people who still believe radio should sound alive.
